
The CCC volleyball team went 2-2 at the Pinnacle Bank Classic at the Raider Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday. A recap of each match is below. The Raiders are 14-11 on the season and will host McCook Community College on Tuesday. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
Match 1 vs. Highland (Kan.) Community College
The Raiders were bested by the Scotties in five sets. Highland took the opening game, 25-22, before CCC evened the match at two apiece, 25-17. The Raiders kept the momentum going in the third set with a 25-23 win. However, the Scotties forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth game. Highland took the match in the fifth set, 15-13. Lauryn Scott led CCC in kills with 18 kills while Libby Ball totaled 51 assists. Maleigha Johnson finished with 34 digs.
Match 2 vs. Northeast Community College
It was another five-set battle for the Raiders and this time, it was a complete back and forth battle before CCC claimed victory, 3-2. CCC won the opening game, 25-19, while the Hawks tied the match with a second set win, 25-20. Northeast held off the Raiders in the third set, 25-23, and the Raiders responded with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set. The Raiders posted a 15-11 triumph in the decisive fifth set to take the match. Arin Reilly and Scott both tallied 16 kills while Ball dished out 51 assists. Reilly and Johnson led the Raiders in digs with 25 apiece.
Match 3 vs. Allen County (Kan.) Community College
The five set matches continued into Saturday for the Raiders as the Red Devils claimed a 3-2 win to open the day. CCC was in position for a shutout victory after winning the first two games, 25-23 and 25-17. Allen County responded with victories in game three and four, 25-18 and 25-19. The Red Devils ran away in the fifth set with a 15-8 win in the fifth set. Scott tallied 19 kills, Ball logged 44 assists and Johnson posted 25 digs.
Match 4 vs. Metropolitan (Mo.) Community College
The Raiders closed out the Raider Invitational with a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats. The match opened with a Wildcat win, 25-12, followed by CCC equaling the action with a 20-27 victory in the second set. The Raiders took the match with consecutive wins in the third and fourth game, 25-14 and 25-22. Reilly led the way in kills with 16. Ball finished with 40 assists and Johnson totaled 22 digs.
"Overall, it was a good weekend for us," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We went the distance with both Allen County and Highland, and we really felt we let two get away. So, it was great to finish with a four-set win over a really good NDSCS team. It was wonderful to be back on our own court and we're looking forward to another week of home matches."
