JCCC’s pitchers dominate Cloud County’s hitters in series sweep

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Johnson County softball's pitching staff dominated the two-game series at Cloud County on Saturday afternoon.

The Cavaliers won the first game 5-0 in seven innings and completed the sweep with 8-0 win in five innings in the second game.

Freshman right-hander Elsa Carrillo held the Thunderbirds to just two hits while striking out six batters over seven innings. Sophomore right-hander Jalin Lavers hurled a one-hit shutout while also striking out six batters for five innings of work.

In the opener, sophomore second baseman Jaylee Jefferson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and one driven in. Freshman infielder Reagen Neitzel belted a two-run home run and freshman outfielder Katie Kolarik drove in a run to pace the Cavaliers offense.

Neitzel again was the star at the plage going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI. Freshman outfielder Makenzie Yoder ripped two singles and drove in three runs and freshman catcher Maddie Murray hit a solo shot over the fence.

Johnson County (17-10/4-0) returns to the diamond on Thursday, April 3 when they host Cowley (20-8/2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
