After winning a share of the KJCCC Division II title the #2 Highland men's basketball team embarked on the next part of their journey with postseason play and it started with the Region VI Semifinals at home against Fort Scott.
It marked the third meeting of the season and it was in the middle of the previous two not being a route by the Scotties like the regular season finale but not being a tight down to the wire battle like at Fort Scott earlier in the season, also. After reestablishing the lead with six minutes to go in the first half the Scotties held it the rest of the game and topped Fort Scott 75-55.
The win moves the Scotties into the Region VI Championship for the third straight year and improves their record to 28-2 on the season giving them the most wins in a single season in school history. The win also is their sixth straight against Fort Scott and Coach
Jerre Cole's fourth trip to the Region Championship game.
After a 5-0 start to the game by Highland Fort Scott took an 8-7 lead with 16:04 remaining in the first half and the Greyhounds remained in front until a
Taiveyhon Mason steal and layup to tie the game at 17-17 with seven minutes to go in the first half. A
Jaquan Daniels three-point put the Scotties up 20-17 at about the six minute mark and the Scotties would not give the lead back leading 32-24 at the half.
The Scotties pushed the lead out over the course of the second half and used that cushion to grab the 75-55 win over Fort Scott.
Highland shot 50.9% from the floor marking the 17
th time this season the Scotties have shot 50+% in a game and forced 21 Fort Scott turnovers which is the 10
th game this season the Scotties have forced 20+ turnovers.
Mason led the Scotties with 17 points adding three assists, while
Luiz Machado Jr. chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.
Andre Jackson filled the stat sheet out strong with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, while
DJ Doakes chipped in nine points and
Tristen Hull tallied eight points.
