Men’s Basketball Season Comes to an End in Danville

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team fell to the 11th seeded Johnson County Community College Cavaliers with a final score of 90-63. This was the fourth time the Blue Devils came across conference foe, JCCC. The first two meetings fell the Cavaliers way, and then the Blue Devils got revenge and punched their ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament with a Region VI win over JCCC. It was the Cavaliers who got the best of KCKCC the fourth and final time this season as they shot more than 55% from the floor. JCCC point guard, Stephen Samuels, finished the day with a career-high 35 points while shooting 14-19 from the floor.

The Blue Devil men's basketball season was nothing short of a success this season. They received their first national tournament win in program history and won the Region VI Championship against rival, Johnson County. Head Coach, Brandon Burgette, received a plaque for 'Plains District Coach of the Year' in the opening game against Raritan Valley. He then led them to a 26-10 season and averaged the most points per game with 80.3.

BJ Stewart finished his last game in a Blue Devil uniform with 15 points and four rebounds. He finished the 2024-25 season averaging 16.9 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game and 1.3 steals per game. In the NJCAA DII Men's Basketball National Tournament, Stewart dropped 62 points, 20 rebounds and five steals. Camron Williford had 12 points in his last game for KCKCC along with three assists and two rebounds. Williford finished the season averaging 3.8 assists per game, a team high. Pierce Ross and O'shawn Jones-Winslow were the other two sophomores on the historic men's basketball team. Ross finished the season averaging the second-most points per game with 11.6 while averaging a team-high 1.4 steals per game. Jones-Winslow dealt with an injury which put him out three consecutive games towards the end of the season. He averaged 7.7 points per game and 4,8 rebounds per game. The Danville native played his last game for KCKCC in front of his hometown crowd and had several family members in the crowd.
