Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Mike Smith

Highland Men Post 1-1 Showing at JCCC Classic

The #2 Highland men's basketball team continued their season with their third appearance in a regular season Classic this time competing at the JCCC Classic in Overland Park, Kansas and posted a 1-1 record in the two games falling to Metropolitan Community College 71-59 and bounced back with a 76-65 win over Washburn JV.

Scotties were in action on Friday against the Wolves of MCC and fell behind early trailing 8-1 and then fell behind by double figures only to claw back into the action to draw within four points, but by halftime Highland trailed 41-24 by a late push from MCC. Second half was a scoring show by Marquise Milton for the Scotties but despite his best performance of the season MCC utilized their early establishment of the lead to hold off a Highland comeback as the Scotties fell 71-59.

Highland struggled from the field in the contest shooting just 35.5% from the field while MCC shot 45.8%. Milton paced Highland with 33 points on 12-17 shooting adding 5-7 from the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds. No other Scottie tallied double figures but Rashon Johnson nabbed 11 rebounds to go with his four points.

Looking to get back in the win column and snap a two-game losing streak the Scotties faced off with Washburn JV on Saturday at the JCCC Classic and that they did. Highland worked to a double digit lead by intermission holding a 40-28 advantage entering halftime and used that to hold off the Ichabods of Washburn securing the 76-65 win.

Scotties shot just 37.7% from the floor but won the rebound battle 54-36 and held Washburn to 36.2% from the floor. Milton paced the Scotties again posting 23 points on 8-19 shooting, while going 6-7 from the free throw line adding five rebounds and five assists. Jaron Flowers chipped in 10 points, while Trey Twa notched eight points and 11 rebounds. Denzel Knight off the bench added eight points and eight rebounds and Kendon Knight had nine points.

The 1-1 showing at the JCCC Classic moved Highland to 7-2 on the season with seven games remaining for the Christmas break. Scotties are back in action on Monday, November 25th on the road against University of Saint Mary (KS) JV in Leavenworth, Kansas at 7:00pm.
