Mountaineers Defeat Labette 9-3

Eastern grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-3 victory over Labette Community College on Saturday. The Mountaineers scored on a home run by Karson Coffee in the first inning and a home run by Easten James in the second inning.

The Mountaineers pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second James hit a solo homer.

David Sandlin toed the rubber for Mountaineers. He allowed six hits and three runs over two innings, striking out three.

Van Sickle was on the hill for Labette. He surrendered six runs on four hits over four innings, striking out three. Hutchens and Ropple entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Eastern hit two home runs on the day. James went yard in the second inning. Coffee had a dinger in the first inning.

James led the Mountaineers with two hits in three at-bats.

Labette racked up eight hits. Collingsworth and Farr all collected multiple hits for the Cardinals.
