Blue Devils Blister Cloud County, 8-0 and 14-1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (28-14) swept Cloud County Community College (15-19) 8-0 and 14-1 Apr. 17 at the KCKCC Softball Field. Both sides of the ball were at full display as the defense only let in one Thunderbird run compared to the 22 runs and 28 hits for the Blue Devils.  

In the first game, Kylie Vandervoort hit a walk-off two run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to mercy rule the Thunderbirds. That homer was her second on the season. Jaycee Long had two doubles and two RBI while holding down the shortstop position. Sydney Becker also had a double while knocking in one RBI and is on a 14-game hitting streak. Gabrielle King caught behind the dish and recorded two hits. Savannah Short had two hits and is now on a five game multi-hit streak.

Alyssa Droge went the distance while letting up just three hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts. She has now gone back-to-back games where she has recorded double digit strikeouts.

For the second game, the Blue Devils consistently kept putting up runs as they scored a run in every inning. Gabrielle King caught behind the dish and had three hits while knocking in three runs. Kloey Dawes also tallied three runs and three RBI. Sydney Becker hit a home run and recorded three RBI from her two hits. McKenna Lester and Adrianna Smith both had two hits and two RBI adding to the Blue Devil total. Savannah Short hit her third home run in the last 10 days as well as a single.

Hanna Acree also went the distance letting in one run, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. She now holds an impressive 2.51 ERA, third in the KJCCC and 14 wins, also third in the KJCCC.

The next series for the Blue Devils is against Cowley Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Apr. 21 at Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City, Kan.
