
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Playing for the first time since moving into the top 10 in the NJCAA D-II Men's Soccer Poll, No. 7-ranked Johnson County Community College took care business by downing Central Community College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Nebraska.
For the second straight match, sophomore midfielder Dominic Zuniga got the Cavaliers on the board first netting his fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute. Sophomore forward Ryan Grinstead earned the assist, his second of the season
In the 51st minute Grinstead upped JCCC advantage to 2-0 with his first goal of the year. It would prove to be the game winner. Freshman midfielder/defender Grayson Niswonger picked up his first collegiate assist.
One minute later Central cut their deficit in half when Jamie Zani found the back of the net, but that would be all the offense the Raider would put together the rest of the match
Freshman goalkeeper Ben Hertel picked up his second win stopping five of the six shots he faced.
Johnson Count (4-1-0, 0-0-0) will open its conference season on Wednesday, September 11 when they travel to Chanute, Kansas to take No. 14-ranked Neosho County Community College (2-1-0). Last season, the Panthers finished in a tie for the conference title with the Cavaliers.
