Highland Baseball Suffers Pair of Losses to Butler

Highland baseball continued their season by opening a four-game series with Butler on Thursday hosting the Grizzlies in Topeka for a double-header on Thursday.

Scotties were unable to get offense rolling in the contest falling 10-0 and 11-0 in the doubleheader moving Highland to 6-4 on the season.

Game 1 – Butler Won 10-0
Both teams went down in order to open the contest over the first two innings but Butler broke through in the top of the third for the first run of the game but the Scotties managed to give up just one run in the frame. Highland saw Butler tack on another run in the top of the fourth and it remained a 2-0 game entering the seventh inning when the Grizzlies put together a stout inning tallying eight runs and the Scotties offense never got going falling 10-0.

In the loss Jared Wells as strong as the Scottie start tossing five innings giving up just two runs, only one earned on four hits and four walks while striking out three. Jacob Selock and Isaac Nunez each had a hit for the Scotties which proved to be the only two hits in the game for Highland, while Nick Schifftner and Alenjandro Torres each drew a walk.

Game 2 – Butlers Won 11-0 (7 innings)
Scotties fell down early in game two as Butler tagged Highland for a run in the top of the first and it was an uphill battle from that point on for the Scotties. Butler added three runs in the third, four in the fourth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to end the game in seven innings via run-rule at 11-0.

In the loss Scotties managed just one-hit that coming from Jaeden Rodriguez who was 1-1 with a walk, while Jacob Selock had a pair of walks. On the mound Joan Gonzalez got the start and went three and two-thirds innings giving up eight runs. In relief Stephen Keech tossed one and one-third innings of strong relief giving up no runs on one hit and three walks with one strikeout.

Highland will now travel to El Dorado to square off with Butler again this Saturday for another doubleheader.
