Last second shot comes up short as Butler falls on the road at Seward

The Butler Grizzlies had three chances to send the game to overtime late in the game but could not convert, as their road woes continue after falling to the Seward Saints, 61-58, in Liberal on Wednesday.

Four Grizzly players scored in double figures, led by Marque English, who had 13 points and nine rebounds, just short of his fourth double-double of the season. He was joined by Keyon Thomas, Isiah Williams, and Jaden Okon who each had 10, but it just was not a very good night for the offense, as the Grizzlies shot just 34% and only 21% from three point range. Despite the cold night, the Grizzlies were able to get themselves back into the game, slowly but surely. Down nine at the half and trailing by as many as 13 in the second, the Grizzlies went on a 14-3 run, clawing back to within three points with less than a minute remaining. But the three point woes were just too much to overcome, as Butler couldn't convert the chances they had to send it to overtime.

The Grizzlies outrebounded Seward, finishing with 33 boards and 13 second chance points, led by English's nine. Butler finished with 32 points in the paint, dominating inside. Butler lost the turnover battle but managed more points off turnovers, finishing with 12.

The Grizzlies fall to 14-5 with the defeat and 8-5 in conference play. The loss snaps a two game winning streak and drops Butler to 3-5 on the road this season. They'll return to friendlier confines on Monday, welcoming Cowley in a game that was rescheduled from January 8th.
