Sophomores Honored as KCKCC Seeks Home Playoff Berth Wednesday

A home playoff berth in the NJCAA Region VI volleyball playoffs will be on the line Wednesday when Kansas City Kansas Community College closes its regular season.

Hesston will be the final hurdle for the Blue Devils in a 6:30 p.m. contest that has been moved to Rockhurst University. Not only will a high playoff seed be on the line, but seven Blue Devils will be honored in Sophomore Night ceremonies.

KCKCC enters the finale in fourth place at 6-3. A win would keep the Blue Devils a game ahead of fifth place Allen (5-4) and assure a first round home playoff berth. Cowley (8-0) leads the conference with No. 7 ranked Johnson County and No. 17 Neosho (both 7-1) tied for second pending a showdown at JCCC Wednesday night.

Unbeaten and No. 2 ranked Cowley dealt the Blue Devils their third Jayhawk loss Wednesday, stretching the Tigers' winning streak to 30 games with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 win in Arkansas City. Mercedes Brown had 10 kills while Taryn Dial had 20 assists. Amauri Browning and Dial each had 13 digs for KCKCC.

The Blue Devils are 19-10 overall and 43-20 overall the past two seasons. Sophomores who will be playing their final regular season games are Jayda Watson, Tyrah Woods, Emma Ayers, Lydia Huston, Hayley Hastings, Dial and Browning.
