Highland Volleyball Makes it Four Straight Years with 20+ Wins After 2-0 Night on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After a 2-0 night on Friday evening the Highland volleyball has now won 20 or more matches for four consecutive years.

The Scotties picked up win number 19 and 20 on the season by beating Baker University JV and Southeast Community College both in three sets on Friday night. Scotties topped the Wildcats 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 and then dispatched of Southeast 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 to improve to 20-4 on the season.

Highland jumped out to a 5-0 lead early against Baker JV and used that to have control of the first set of the match with Annabelle Vaught and Gabbie Bishop highlighting the set and match recording multiple kills as the Scotties took set one 25-14. Baker held an early lead in set two until the Scotties answered to snag the lead and continued to grow it out over the second set taking it 25-15 with some spectacular Nicole Franco digs late in the set and an Amber Hildebrand kill to secure the set. After going down 6-4 in the third set the Scotties put together a 5-0 run to take the leads and would use that to propel themselves to the 25-19 set and match win.

Seven gals had two or more kills in the win including a career best eight kills for Vaught, along with eight by Franco and career best five from Bishop. Kellyn Lipasek registered 28 assists and added seven digs, while Myla Turner tallied 21 digs.

Scotties opened the final match of the night with another run starting with a 4-0 run against Southeast but the Storm countered outscoring Highland 8-1 over the next nine points to lead 8-5. After tying the first set at 11-11 the Scotties put together another 4-0 run to take control again and won the first sets 25-18. Some big hits by Abby Williams and Jessica Monroe helped the Scotties grow their lead in set two and take it 25-15, while the Scotties had no trouble establishing a lead in the third set and won it 25-16 to take the match over Southeast.

Monroe paced the Scotties with another double figure outing posting 12 kills adding a pair of aces and two digs, while Turner had 21 digs for the second time on the night and registered 20+ digs in a contest for the 14th time in her career. Cajia Allen had eight kills, along with 10 digs and added a pair of assists, while Lipasek notched 29 assists with 10 digs and four kills.

The Scotties are back in action again on Wednesday, October 2nd as they travel to Fort Scott, Kansas to take on the Greyhounds of Fort Scott for a Top 10 KJCCC battle at 6:30pm. (The match will be live streamed on the Scottie Sports Network)
