
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County Community College men's soccer team closed out its 2024 regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory at Southeast Community College Saturday evening. The Cavaliers finished runner-up in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference D-II standings and enter postseason play with a mark of 13-3-0
JCCC freshman forward Tanner Poirier provided both scores for the Cavaliers, his seventh and eight goals overall for the season. It was also his second multiple-goal match of the year.
Both of his goals came in the second half. He first found the net in the 56th minute with assist getting credited to sophomore midfielder Monty Almaliky and freshman defender Michael Bernabe. He added an insurance goal in the 70th minute off a feed from sophomore midfielder Dominic Zuniga.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brody Macoubrie earned the shutout victory, stopping both shots he faced. It was his third shutout of the season and sixth of his career. With the win Macoubrie improved to 6-1-0 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.00, second-best in the conference.
Johnson County is scheduled to open postseason play on Thursday, October 31. Their opponent and time of the match have yet to be determined.
