Blue Devils Stay in Race for Third in Conference

Volleyball vs Allen County

The Kansas City Kansas Community College volleyball team got little time to enjoy a vital 3-0 Jayhawk Conference volleyball win over Allen County Wednesday.

The Blue Devils resume play Friday and Saturday in the Central Nebraska Tournament in Columbus, Neb. facing Northeast at 1 p.m. and North Platte at 5 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, they will play Northeast at 9 a.m. and host Central at 11 a.m.

KCKCC's win over Allen in the next-to-last home contest accomplished two things. First, the fourth place Blue Devils (5-2) are just one game back of third place Neosho (6-1) in the Jayhawk Conference. Johnson County and Cowley share the lead at 6-0. Secondly, they moved closer to a high playoff seed with three conference contests remaining.

The Blue Devils continued to get better against Allen County. After a 25-23 thriller in the opener, they put the match away with 25-21 and 25-15 wins.

Freshman Mercedez Brown had 14 of KCKCC's 44 kills with sophomores Jayda Watson and Tyrah Woods adding nine and eight, respectively. Sophomore Taryn Dial led in assists with 37 while sophomores Amauri Browning had 22 digs and Emma Ayers had 10.

The Blue Devils, who are 16-7 overall, play at Independence Oct. 11 and at Cowley Oct. 18 before ending the regular season Oct. 25 when they host Hesston for Sophomore Night.
