Women’s Soccer Moving on to Second Round of NJCAA Plains District Tournament

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's soccer team took down the Garden City Community College Broncbusters, 4-0 Nov. 1 at the KCKCC soccer field in the first round of the NJCAA Plains District Tournament. Last year, the Blue Devils fell to the Broncbusters with a score of 3-2 in the first round of the Plains District Tournament, but they ensured a different outcome this year as they continue their undefeated season.

It took just seven minutes for the Blue Devils to get on the board as Kiara Carr was able to put a shot over the Broncbuster goalkeeper from outside the box. Nobody scored in the rest of the first half, but Cora Ellermann scored back to back goals in the 53rd and 57th minutes to extend the Blue Devil lead. The scoring would end in the 72nd minute as Kaitlyn Milford scored her second goal on the season with a header from a corner kick. Assists came from Laura Ginguene (2), Sierra Montez and Amelie Max.

As a team, the Blue Devils outshot the Broncbusters 20 to three and Blue Devil goalkeeper, Maria Heuman, had to save just one shot on net. Lena Wasow entered the game for Heuman in the 80th minute as both goalkeepers shared a clean sweep.

The second round of the NJCAA Plains District Tournament for the Blue Devils is against the fourth seeded Cowley Tigers at 5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the KCKCC soccer field.
