Red Ravens Fall to Hutchinson in Region VI Semifinals 76-75

Wichita, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Basketball Team just were not able to overcome a bad shooting first half and lost 76-75 to Hutchinson in the Region VI Semifinal matchup.  The loss puts the Red Ravens' overall record on the year at 22-3.  Coffeyville must now wait to see if they are picked as one of the eight at-large selections for the upcoming NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championships.

The Red Ravens managed some cold shooting in the first half of this one only shooting 35% from the field.  Hutchinson on the other hand shot the ball at a 52% clip in the first half.  With the combination of those two, the Red Ravens found themselves down 14 points, 42-28 late in the first half.  Coffeyville closed out the first half narrowing the gap a bit, but still found themselves down with a halftime deficit of 42-31.

The second half saw the Ravens shoot better, improving to 46% for the second half as well as Hutchinson cooling off a bit, themselves shooting 46% in the second half.  Coffeyville slowly but surely closed the gap in the scoreboard until the Ravens finally pulled to a tie at 61-61 with 8:32 left in the game.  From that point on it was a see-saw back and forth game with neither team building more than a 2-3 point lead.

In the final seconds of the game, Red Raven sophomore forward Larry White connected on a two-point shot to give the Ravens a slim 75-74 lead with 18 seconds remaining.  The ensuing Hutchinson possession saw the Blue Dragons miss a shot and then rebound their miss and put a two-pointer in with just under two seconds remaining to take the 76-75 lead.  Coffeyville's last-second attempt by Raven guard Tylor Perry missed the mark and Coffeyville found themselves on the wrong end of a one-point 76-75 defeat.

Perry led the Red Ravens with 19 points (on 5/12 shooting including 2/5 from three).  Sophomore guard Bostyn Holt connected for 14 points.  All in all nine different players scored for the Ravens.

Coffeyville now must wait to see if they are picked as one of the at-large selections for the National Tournament.  The NJCAA Tournament selections are slotted to be announced by the NJCAA Sunday, April 11th at 6:00 p.m.
