
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County guard Gavin Harvey accomplished something that had only been done four times in program history. The freshman out of Blue Valley West led the Cavaliers to a 77-62 victory over Hesston with a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. His 13 total assists tie for ninth on JCCC's single game chart.
Johnson County led the entire way Saturday afternoon, taking a 20-point lead into the break at halftime. The Larks were able to cut into their deficit in the second half, getting to within seven points with 5:38 to play, but the Cavaliers closed out the game on a 15-7 run to post the 15-point win and remain in first place in the KJCCC D-II race at 7-0.
Sophomore guard Joey Robinson led all players with 18 points draining 6-of-9 shots beyond the 3-point arc. He also grabbed six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Steven Samuels followed with 15 points and sophomore guard Mauryon Turner and freshman forward Tavian Cruse each added 10 points. Cruse also hauled down 10 boards to post his eighth double-double of the season.
Jammial Hicks and Terryon Stebbins each scored 12 points to lead Hesston, who fell to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
No. 10-ranked Johnson County (19-3, 7-0) travels to Chanute to take on the Neosho County Panthers (9-12, 2-4) on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m.
