
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 10-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team (24-3/11-0) topped double digits for the second time this season on Monday, drubbing Baker University JV 109-53 at JCCC Gymnasium, extending their current win streak to 12 straight.
Five Cavaliers finished in double digits scoring with four more posting seven or more points as the team connected on a season-high 59 percent of its shot attempts.
Freshman forward Tavian Cruse and sophomore forward Brandon Mann led the charge with each pouring in 17 points. Cruse hit 7-of-9 shots and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe. He also grabbed eight rebounds to along with three assists. Mann hit 8-of-10 shots with a free throw, pulled down six boards and dished out a team-high five assists.
Sophomore guard Gavin Harvey hit 6-of-8 shots with a 3-pointer to post 13 points. Sophomore forward Traeger Rader recorded his second career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore guard Steven Samuels finished with 10 points.
Freshman forward Taveon Vann finished one point and one rebound shy of posting his first career double-double. His nine rebounds set a new season game high, and his nine points rank as his second highest game total.
Sophomore guard Mauryon Taylor and sophomore forward Ron Taylor also recorded nine points in the victory, and sophomore guard Jordan Jenkins contributed seven points and six boards.
Baker was led by Myles Chavarria with 17 points, followed by Carter Trumbore with 10.
Johnson County will quickly return to action on Wednesday night, February 19, when they travel to Parsons, Kansas to take on the Labette Cardinals (8-19/1-9), then return home to host the Fort Scott Greyhounds (12-12/4-7) on Saturday, February 22 with the opening tip scheduled for 4 p.m. The team will be celebration sophomore day.
