
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After falling behind by seven points early to Fort Scott, the Johnson County men's basketball rallied to defeat the Greyhounds 86-76 in a Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II match at JCCC Gymnasium Wednesday night.
After trailing 11-4 after six minutes of the opening half, Johnson County took control of the game outscoring Fort Scott by 13 the rest of the half to take a 40-34 lead into the locker room at the half. JCCC added to their margin in the second half for a 10-point victory and their first conference victory of the 2022-23 season.
Sophomore All-American guard Tymer Jackson poured in a season high 30 points to lead the Cavaliers. He hit 8-of-14 shots including three 3-pointer and was 11-of-13 at the free throw line. He also contributed four rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. For the season Jackson is averaging 21.7 points and hitting 81.8 percent of his charity attempts.
Freshman forward Kyler Mann recorded his first career double-double finishing with a season-high 13 points and 11 rebounds. This is the second time he has topped double figures scoring and it is his third time in double digits for rebounds.
Sophomore guards Kaleim Taylor and Seth Chargois scored in double figures posting 13 and 10 respectively.
JCCC also got solid effort from sophomore forwards Xavier Kahube and Ryan Gordon. Kahube line consisted of eight points and eight boards, and Gordon tallied nine points and five rebounds.
Keryn Collins was Fort Scott's top scorer and rebounder with 23 and five.
Johnson County (13-5/1-1) host Labette (9-5/1-1) in a KJCCC D-II battle on Saturday, January 21 at 4 p.m.
