Balanced attack leads Lady Tigers over struggling Allen squad

Taking on an Allen Community College team that entered Wednesday's contest losers of 12 games in a row, the Cowley College women's basketball team raced out to a 16-point first quarter lead and never looked back in a 90-45 road win.

The Lady Tigers had 10 players score in the win, nine of which scored between six to 14 points.

"Allen is a tough place to play, but I thought we performed well," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

Cowley is now 12-7 overall and 10-7 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. The victory moves the Lady Tigers to within a game and a half behind third place Coffeyville (11-5), who they will face Saturday at home.

Allen, losers of 13 games in a row, is now 1-19 overall and 1-17 in the Jayhawk East.

Leading just 16-10, Cowley closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run to lead 26-10. The Lady Tigers would use another 10-3 run to end the second quarter as their lead grew to 47-20.

Cowley then scored the first nine points of the third quarter, capped by a three-pointer by sophomore Seanna Boltz, and went on to out-score Allen 34-16 in the quarter as its lead ballooned to 81-36.

With the game in hand, Cowley's reserves played the majority of the fourth quarter.

Sophomores Seanna Boltz and Milena Fromming led the Lady Tigers with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while fellow sophomores Torri Vang (11 points) and Teagan Brouwer (eight points, 11 rebounds) added season highs in points.

"With a couple players out with injuries, we needed to have others step up," Clark said. "Torri and Teagan stepped up and did a really good job for us."

Freshmen Shamara Henderson and Ryley Beard rounded out Cowley's five players in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Addison Towe led Allen with nine points as the Lady Red Devils shot only 29 percent from the floor.

The Lady Tigers will return home and look to avenge a 82-68 loss to Coffeyville Community College back on March 6. Saturday's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

"This is a huge game for us," Clark said. "We have got to play much better than we did at their place."
