No.13 Women’s Basketball Has Successful KCKCC Athletic Hall of Fame Classic

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team went 2-0 over the weekend during the KCKCC Athletic Hall of Fame Classic by taking down the Haskell Indian Nations University Varsity Reserve team and Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley with scores of 70-63 and 67-38. The annual classic took place Nov.8 and 9 at MCC-Penn Valley.

In the first game, Samaire Slusarek scored a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds and three steals. Emma Berenguer Fernandez recorded her first double-double in a KCKCC jersey with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She has scored in double digits in every game so far this season. Amaya Gallegos shot 7-11 from the field and scored 16 points with six assists. Bennett Peck had 14 points while knocking down four three-pointers. Dakya Foster scored her first points of the season as she finished with four points while going 2-4 from the floor.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 30-69 from the field (44.5%), 5-22 from three-point range (22.7%) and 5-5 from the free-throw line (100%). The Fighting Indians shot 23-57 from the field (40.4%), 8-29 from three-point range (27.6%) and 9-17 from the free-throw line (52.9%).

In the second game, all five Blue Devil starters finished in double figures. Slusarek and Garrett finished with a double-double as they combined for 27 points and 27 rebounds. Garrett also blocked four of the Wolves shots. Zoe Clark came off the bench and recorded 11 rebounds and one assist.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 26-79 from the field (32.9%), 6-23 from three-point range (26.1%) and 9-13 from the free-throw line (69.2%). The Wolves went 10-57 from the field (17.5%), 5-22 from three-point range (22.7%) and 13-25 from the free-throw line (52%).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against Cloud County at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan.
