For the first time since 2014, the Highland Women's Basketball team is Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Champions.
After a 107-43 win over the Hesston Larks and a Johnson County loss to Labette on Saturday, Highland sealed the deal on a conference championship and a No. 1 seed in the Region VI Tournament with two regular season games to play.
"I am really proud of what we have accomplished so far, however, it is very important that we stay focused on getting better. Our region is going to be a giant challenge," commented Head Coach
BJ Smith.
Highland dominated every quarter of Saturday's contest against the Larks holding them to just 43 total points while scoring 107, five points above their average.
The Scotties dominated on the offensive side of the court but it was their defense that won them the game. Highland forced the Larks into 37 turnovers on the day while recording 27 steals and scoring 47 points off of Hesston turnovers.
Berniezha Tidwell led Highland on both ends scoring 20 points and getting five steals. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
Niccolly Ramalho finished the day with 19 points, seven assists and five steals of her own.
Blaize Burgess continued her hot shooting streak knocking down four threes and scoring 18 points.
Stefania Chiziane finished with 15 points and six rebounds and
Kamryn Lemon added 11 points.
Highland remains undefeated, continuing the longest winning streak in HCC history, with 28 consecutive wins. They will host Kansas City Kansas on Wednesday night at 5:30pm and finish regular season play on the road on Saturday, February 24 at Fort Scott CC.
