Women’s Basketball Starts Out 1-0 in Conference Play

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team started off conference play with a win against the Labette Community College Cardinals, 82-34 Jan.11 at Labette Community College in Parsons, Kan. Both Capri Garrett and Destiny Ochs recorded a double double in the first game of 2025.

Bennett Peck and Garrett each finished the game with a team-high 15 points as they combined for 12-25 from the field. Peck was also the only player who played more than 20 minutes who didn't record a turnover. Zoe Clark had 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and a block. Ochs came off the bench and tallied 10 points while bringing down 12 rebounds. Ja'Cole Johnson played her first game of the season in a Blue Devil uniform and recorded a team-high eight assists along with nine points. Emma Berenguer Fernandez led the team defensively with three steals, and Kylee West dropped a career-high eight points as she shot 4-8 from the field along with two rebounds and an assist.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 31-73 from the field (42.5%), 7-28 from three-point range (25%) and 13-19 from the free-throw line (68.4%). The Cardinals shot 12-66 from the field (18.2%), 3-14 from three-point range (21.4%) and 7-12 from the free-throw line (58.3%).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against Johnson County Community College at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.
