Five New Nationals Qualifiers & A School Record Leads Highland Track Performances at Scottie Classic

February 16

It continues to be a season full of strong performances that had gotten better over the course of the season and that was the case again on Saturday at home for the Highland track and field team as they competed in their annual Scottie Classic Indoor meet.

At the end of the day five more National qualifying marks were posted by Highland athletes, while another National qualifying mark was improved, 20 season best marks were posted and another school record fell.

It was a meet for the Scotties to work on improvement and put up some marks before Regionals next week. Leading the top marks on the day was a trio of National qualifiers in field events for the Scotties.

Dahndray Holmes took a huge leap in his improvement in the triple jump as he improve his best mark from this Indoor season by nearly three feet posting a leap of 47'08 and qualified for Nationals in the process. Also in the triple jump but on the women's side of action Arlet Navarro achieved a National qualify mark as she posted a leap of 36'05.

Ja'Kwan Hale competed in the high jump for the first time in his college career and behind a leap of 6'06.75 earned a spot at Nationals.

On the track Joshua Camp had a converted time of 2:33.69 in the 1000 meter run to qualifying for Nationals in his third event, while Jye Gillard also qualified for Nationals in another event qualifying in the 600 meter run with a converted time of 1:20.77 from competing the 500 meter run at the Scottie Classic. Gillard's time of 1:05.62 earned him the school record in the 500 meter run.

Mookie Rolle also improved his 600 meter run National qualifying time with a converted time of 1:25.84 after competing in the 500 meter run.
