Lady Indians salvage Region IX weekend road split

TRINIDAD, Colo. The McCook Community College volleyball team salvaged a split of the opening weekend of Region IX South play with a straight-set win Saturday over Trinidad State Junior College, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23. MCC dropped a three-set match to Otero Junior College Friday.

Against the Trojans Saturday, sophomore Mallory Brown (Colorado Springs) led MCC with 16 kills. She also had five digs, and an ace serve. Freshman Fernanda Canedo, (Cochabamba, Boliva) had 11 kills and 14 digs.

Freshman Mackenzie Anderson (Ogallala) had seven kills and freshman Jayceea Hanson (McCook) had six kills.

Freshman Madison Mendoza (Ogallala) had 24 assists and five digs. Freshman Heiata Tauota, (Nantes, France) had 15 assists.

The Indians improve to 13-7 (1-1 in the Region IX South). Trinidad State falls to 5-17 (0-2 in Region IX South).

Next up on the schedule, the Lady Indians travel to North Platte for a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference Game starting at 7 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in NCCAC play.

MCC will host a pair of Region IX South games this weekend. On Friday Lamar comes to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center for a 6 p.m. game which has been designated MPCC Adult Education-Literacy Night. On Saturday, Northeastern Junior College comes to town for a 4 p.m. Region IX South game.
