
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 22-ranked took the first two games in a four-game series against No. 14-ranked Iowa Western on Saturday afternoon at the ___ in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Cavaliers blasted the Reivers 13-2 in the opener, then followed with 5-4 victory in 11 innings.
The two teams will close out the series Sunday afternoon at the JCCC Baseball Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
In the opener yesterday, sophomore catcher Miken Miller went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, scored three runs and drove in one, and sophomore outfielder Drew Veatch ripped three singles, stole two bases, scored three times and drove in three to pace JCCC offense.
Sophomore second baseman Jake McClure, sophomore outfielder Bo Shinkle and sophomore designated hitter Jeremy Comer each drove in two runs as well.
Sophomore right-hander Josiah Golden tossed five strong innings, allowing two runs off three hits while striking out eight batters. Freshmen right-handers Keston Holman and Max Waldschmdit each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
In the second game, sophomore outfielder Ryker Edwards was the star for the Cavaliers, going 4-for-5 with two runs driven in. Shinkle also had an RBI singles and Miller walked twice and scored a run.
On the mound, freshman right-hander Luke Fricker earned the victory striking out all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Sophomore right-hander Sam Novotny got the start. He logged three innings giving up one run off two hits with seven strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Christian Bobzin followed with three innings in relieve allowing two runs off three hits with eight strikeouts and freshman right-hander Hudson Byrd struck out six of the seven batters he faced over his two innings of relief. Overall, JCCC's four pitchers struck out 24 Iowa Western hitters.
