
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (19-9, 7-4) crushed Labette Community College (4-20, 1-10), 84-43 Feb. 24. Bennett Peck scored a career-high 17 points during the road game, converting on five 3-pointers and two free throws[KR1] .
Jada Johnson was a standout for the Lady Blue Devils, leading the team in scoring with 21 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor. Kaylyn Rogers contributed 11 points and six rebounds, showing her ability to score and battle for boards in the paint. She also tallied three assists. Symiah Bradley had a balanced performance with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. She also made an impact on defense with three steals. Jailynn Schmaltz came off the bench and had a strong performance in the paint, scoring 11 points and grabbing an impressive 12 rebounds. Victoria Jones contributed six points, six rebounds and a team-high 10 assists.
Labette was led by Aysis Gartmond who tallied 16 points while shooting 6 of 9 from the field. Denym Sanders was the other Cardinal who finished in double figures, tallying 10 points while shooting 3 of 14 from the field with two assists. Makayla Adams had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Makayla Washington ended the day with nine points, five rebounds and one steal.
For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-61), 47.8 percent from 3-point range (11-23) and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line (19-26). The Cardinals shot 28.7 percent from the field (23-80), 35 percent from 3-point range (7-20) and 53.8 percent from the free-throw line (7-13).
The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against Hesston College at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at MCC-Penn Valley.
