MCC goes 2-2 in MPCC Subway Invitational

Lady Indians go 2-2 at North Platte tournament
NORTH PLATTE The McCook Community College volleyball opened the Mid-Plains Subway Invitational Friday losing two matches but came back Saturday to even up the weekend mark at 2-2.

MCC dropped straight set matches to Eastern Wyoming and Durham College (Oshawa, Ontario) Friday.

"We had a very rough start to our weekend," said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. "We couldn't compete with the two teams (Friday) because individually we were competing with ourselves."

On Saturday the Lady Indians swept Hesston College (Kansas) and downed Garden City Community College in four sets Saturday.

"Luckily we decided the two things we could change before Saturday was our attitudes and effort," Kobza said. "We still have a lot of things to improve on and looking forward to four solid days of practice."

MCC, 3-2 on the season, travels to Norfolk for four games in the Northeast Community College Labor Day weekend tournament. MCC takes on Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) in the 11 a.m. game Friday and North Dakota State College of Science at 3 p.m. On Saturday the Lady Indians get a 9 a.m. game with Lake Region State College (North Dakota) and play Fort Scott Community College (Kansas) at 1 p.m.

"Kallie Cathcart and Chandler Nelson are back on the court too, so hoping they get some solid practices in so we can throw them in the rotation for the weekend," Kobza said.

The Fort Scott game begins a string of eight straight matches against Kansas schools with the final seven of those all in the state of Kansas starting with a pair of games in El Dorado on Sept. 6, two more in Salina Sept. 7, Garden City Sept. 12 and Arkansas City Sept. 13-14.

MCC's next home game will be Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. against Central Community College.
