Women’s Basketball: NPCC Classic Recap

The Central Community College women's basketball team split two games at the North Platte Community Community College Classic. A recap of both games is below.

Game 1 vs. Kansas City Kansas Community College

The Raiders pulled off an upset of #10 Kansas City Kansas Community College, 73-69. CCC led by a dozen points at halftime, 36-24, before the Blue Devils clawed their way back and trailed 50-45 after three quarters. KCKCC kept going in the fourth quarter and eventually took a 68-66 with 1:41 to play. Nine seconds later, CCC's Amy Mitchell tied the game at 68 apiece with a pair of free throws. Then, with 39.2 seconds remaining, Brittney Veik put the Raiders up for good with two free throws to make the score 70-69. Veik and Bailey Keller combined for a trio of free throws for the final score of 73-69.

"This was such a great effort by the whole team and I am so proud of them," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins.

Mitchell led CCC with 24 points while Macy Thege totaled 18 points. Veik scored 15 points off the bench.

Game 2 vs. Lamar Community College

The Raiders and the Lopes were tied at 35 at the half before Lamar built a 20-point lead in the second half and went on to a 79-61 victory.

Veik scored 14 points to lead CCC while Thege recorded a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raiders are 6-6 on the season and are off until Monday, Jan. 3, with a road venture to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

"The first part of the season has been very successful," said Perkins. "The girls have done a good job of adapting to some adversity during the semester. I am very proud of our effort and the team's unity. Next semester should be a good one."
