Colby baseball team edges MCC 4-2 in Tuesday action

Colby Community College downed McCook Community College in baseball Tuesday at the Jaycees Sports Complex in a nine-inning game 4-2.

The Trojans scored on a leadoff homerun in the first inning. MCC countered in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double by freshman Trey Taliaferro (Coconut Creek, Fla.) and a two-out single by Caleb Eiguren (freshman, Westminster, Colo.) to tie the game.

Colby scored a run in the third but MCC came back to tie it 2-2 with a run in the fourth when Eiguren lined a one-out double and scored on a wild pitch. That would be MCC's final hit on the afternoon and the Indians were held to just three.

Austin Mathews (sophomore, Clearwater, Fla.) started the game on the mound and went five innings allowing five hits and four earned runs. He walked one and struck out six.

Jade Gordon (sophomore, Alvin, Texas) pitched the six and seventh innings and held Colby hitless on three walks and four strikeouts.

Holden Hopkins (sophomore, Norman, Okla.) closed off the final two innings for the Indians with hitless ball. He also walked three and struck out four.

Colby goes to 10-10 on the season.

MCC goes to 12-10 and are scheduled to play a three-game series against Southeast Community College and Saturday and Sunday but the coaches from the two schools are watching the weather and may move the series up a day or two before any adverse weather moves in.
