Cavaliers roll to a 56-point win over Saint Mary JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 13-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team opened with a 14-0 run on their way to a 97-41 victory over Saint Mary JV on Tuesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. 

Freshman forward Taveon Vann had his best game as a collegiate player, pouring in a game-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds. 

Sophomore forward Traeger Rader also posted his best game of the season, finishing with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards. Rader was 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line. 

Freshman guard Joey Robinson knocked down four treys to finish with 14 points along with five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore guard Steven Samuels was also quite efficient from the field making 5-of-6 shots including two 3-pointers to post 12 points, and sophomore forward Brandon Mann tallied 10 points and five rebounds. 

Freshman forward Tavian Cruse, who earlier in the day was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and scored eight points. 

Other key efforts were posted by sophomore guard Ben Miller (4 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds), freshman forward Ron Taylor (8 points, 5 rebounds), sophomore guard Jordan Jenkins (5 points, 5 rebounds) and sophomore guard Mauryon Turner (5 points).

Tre Morris and Tate Brown led Saint Mary JV with each scoring 10 points.

With the win the Cavaliers improved to 10-1 on the season and extended their win streak to nine straight as they head into a Saturday afternoon battle at No. 3-ranked and undefeated North Central Missouri College (11-0).
