Red Ravens Advance with 89-62 Victory Over SW TN CC in NJCAA First Round

Hutchinson, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team looked like a team ready to compete in their 89-62 NJCAA opening-round victory over Southwest Tennessee Community College.  The win advances the #10 seeded Ravens (23-3) to the next round where they will face the #7 seeded Odessa Wranglers (20-2).

Coffeyville came into their NJCAA opening round game having played 25 games on the season.  Their opponent Southwest Tennessee had only played 15 games and the 10 game difference showed up in this one.  As the game progressed, Coffeyville seemed the more seasoned team on the court.

The first ten minutes of the game was a feeling out time for the Ravens as the score was back and forth with each team taking 1-2 point leads.  At the 10:30 mark of the first half, Coffeyville's sophomore forward Larry White hit a shot to put the Ravens up 20-19 and the Ravens did not look back.  By halftime, Coffeyville had extended their lead out to 40-27.

After halftime, the Ravens did not let up pushing the score to 60-40 on a Kevaughn Ellis 3-ptr at the 13:33 mark of the second half.  From that point on the Ravens cruised to the 89-62 victory.

Coffeyville continued their season-long strong shooting hitting on 55% overall in the game including 41% from the 3 point line.  Coffeyville's bench showed out scoring 40 points to Southwest Tennessee's 6.

The Red Ravens had four players in double figures including sophomore guard Tylor Perry with 18 points (6-9 shooting overall including 2-4 from three), freshman Love Bettis with 16 points (5-9 shooting overall including 2-4 from three), freshman Hayden Brittingham with 12 points (on 6-8 shooting), and redshirt sophomore Kevaughn Ellis with 10 points (3-4 shooting including 2-3 from three).

Coffeyville's NJCAA second-round matchup against Odessa is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20th at 8:30 pm in Hutchinson Kansas.
