Cavaliers advance to Region 6 Championship game with win over Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked and top-seeded Johnson County men's basketball team pulled away in the second half to post a hard-fought 68-60 victory over Allen in the semifinals of the Region 6 Tournament at JCCC Gymnasium on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Cavaliers improve to 29-3 overall and will play for the tournament title on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m. against No. 2-seed Kansas City Kansas.

Four of the JCCC's five starters scored in double figures led by sophomore forward Brandon Mann on 4-of-6 shooting and 7-of-10 at the free throw line. He also grabbed 12 rebounds to post his third double-double of the season.

Freshman guard Gavin Harvey followed with 13 points and freshman guard Joey Robinson and sophomore guard Steven Samuels each contributed 12 points. Robinson also grabbed 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Tavian Cruse nearly had a double-double finishing with nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Johnson County's ability to get to the free throw was the difference in the contest. JCCC made 32 trips, making 21 attempts, while Allen was just 7-of-8 at the line.

The Red Devils were led by Javonte Costner with 20 points, followed by a double-double of 14 points and 14 boards by Mike Smith.
