Blue Devils Streak Snapped by No. 17 Cowley, 6-1, and 13-5

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (28-16) got swept by No. 17 Cowley College (37-10) 6-1 and 13-5 Apr. 21 at the Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City, Kan. The Blue Devil offense struggled, only adding up 10 hits in both games combined.  

In the first game, Jaycee Long scored the only run for the Blue Devils with a solo home run in the third inning. The only other players to record a hit were from Kylie Vandervoort and Gabrielle King. Vandervoort's hit was a double in the fifth inning.

Alyssa Droge faced 28 Tiger batters and let up six runs from the eight hits, three walks and two home runs. She did add five strikeouts to her season total (123).

For the second game, Sydney Becker led the team with one double and a single while knocking in a run. McKenna Lester put in three of the five Blue Devil runs with a three run double to left field in the second inning, putting the Blue Devils up 5-3. That lead didn't stick though as the Tigers scored seven runs in the bottom half of the second inning making it a 10-5 lead for the Tigers, who currently lead the conference.

Hanna Acree threw for just 1.1 innings and let up five runs, four hits and one walk. There were two home runs hit on her as well. Alexis Smith, Landri Lopez and Lillian Fisher came in for the remainder of the game letting up a total eight runs, six walks and six hits.

The next series for the Blue Devils is against Iowa Western Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Apr. 23 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
