Highland Snag First KJCCC Win Beating Labette On the Road

After a tough loss on Wednesday in the Conference opener the Highland men's basketball team looked to get their first KJCCC win of the season and did so on the road on Saturday with a 71-66 win over Labette.

The win moved the Scotties to 1-1 in the KJCCC and 14-6 on the season overall. The KJCCC standings for the men after two games for all six teams have everyone at 1-1 in Conference play.

Highland jumped on top with the initial bucket of the contest and about midway through the first half the Scotties grew their lead out to take control of the contest going up 32-17 with under six minutes left in the first half. By halftime Highland had the game in their grasp up 41-25 headed into the locker room.

The second half saw the Scotties maintain the lead but that lead did start to slowly dissipate as Labette pushed closer and closer and got within single digits down the stretch. The Scotties were able to fend off the Cardinals and hit a few free throws in the final portion of the contest to secure the 71-66 road win.

Scotties shot 47.2% from the floor in the contest, while holding Labette to under 40% shooting and won the rebounding battle 44-33.

A pair of 20 points performances and a double-double paced Highland on the night. Marquise Milton tallied 23 points including 10-10 from the free throw line while adding four assists. Rashon Johnson dropped 20 points on 8-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds and tallied four assists. Aguek Deng notched another double-double on the season scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Highland keeps the season rolling along on Wednesday, January 29th when they travel to Hesston for a KJCCC tilt at 7:30pm.
