It was a tough day on the diamond for the Highland pitchers as the Cloud T-Birds swept the Scotties in the first double-header of the season; game one (9-4) and game two (13-5).
Â
A Cloud solo homerun and a Highland error would give the T-Birds an early 2-0 lead to start the game. A sac fly in the 2
nd and an RBI double in the 3
rd jumped the T-Birds to a 4-0 lead over the Scotties.
Â
A slow start offensively for the Scotties would leave the scoreboard empty up until the 6
th inning. Cloud would walk in the first run for Highland on the day. The 7
th inning showed more promise offensively, it just came a little too late. The Scotties had some good at bats and Cloud walked in another Highland batter for their second run of the day.
Adam Miner hit an RBI single to center field that scored
Jacob Hanson and cut the lead 9-4.
Keishon Brown would get hit by a pitch and score Dungan from third for the Scotties 4
th and final run of the day ending the game in the favor of the T-Birds, 9-4.
Â
Game two started off better for the Scotties as they were the first to light up the scoreboard in the 2
nd inning with an
Adam Miner sac fly. That lead wouldn't last long as the T-Birds answered with an 8-run 3
rd inning and took back the lead 8-1.
Â
A
Jacob Hanson solo homerun in the bottom of the 3
rd would cut it to 8-2 but not be enough for the T-Birds to relax. They scored two in the 4
th inning, one in the 6
th and two more in the top of the 7
th to finish with 13 runs while hitting three homeruns.
Â
Highland hit back-to-back homeruns in the 6
th, one by Bradey Miler and one by
Tanner Dungan and
Adam Miner hit an RBI double, his third of the day, to finish out the Highland scoring with five runs. Cloud County took game two 13-5 and completed the sweep.
Â
Highland, 1-2, will look to bounce back against the T-Birds on Saturday as they travel to Concordia to play at 1:00pm & 3:00pm.
