TOWANDA, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team traveled Monday to Towanda, Kansas for a rare early-week series with Butler Community College. The Hawks dropped Game 1 by a final score of 9-8 before taking a 3-1 victory in Game 2.
Northeast (4-5) had their power come alive in the first contest of the day as Edgar Hernandez (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) in the second inning and Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) in the fifth inning both homered to begin the afternoon. A five-run fifth inning put the Hawks ahead, but the Grizzlies scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the triumph.
Game 2 was a pitcher's duel throughout the beginning stages as neither team pushed a run across the plate until the fourth inning. Starter Cole Kuszak (Broomfield, Colo.) went 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits and zero earned runs to continue his tremendous start to 2025 as the freshman has a 0.63 ERA during three starts this year. Northeast scored one run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning while Max Coughlin (Omaha, Neb.) finished the matchup on the mound and picked up the victory to secure a split of the day for the Hawks.

Clapp on the mindset heading into tomorrow:
"Tomorrow is another day for us to continue to work and get better," Clapp said.
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will be back in action in another doubleheader with Butler Community College beginning at 12 p.m. tomorrow in El Dorado, Kansas.
