Women’s Basketball Regular Season Ends with Loss to No.22 Panthers

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball lost to the Neosho County Community College Panthers, 96-77 Feb.26 at MCC-Penn Valley in Kansas City, Mo. There were six women's basketball sophomores who were honored after the game. Those sophomores were Samaire Slusarek, Capri Garrett, Ja'Cole Johnson, Claire Suchma and Bennett Peck.

Slusarek finished with a team-high 22 points and nine rebounds while shooting 8-16 from the field. Garrett was right behind her with 17 points of her own while shooting 6-12 from the floor. She also recorded three blocks on the night. Emma Berenguer Fernandez finished the night with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals and four blocks. Zoe Clark came off the bench and scored 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds and four steals. The Blue Devils finished in fifth place in the KJCCC after going 6-8 in conference play.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 24-53 from the field (45.3%), 3-14 from three-point range (21.4%) and 26-33 the free-throw line (78.8%). The Panthers shot 28-72 from the field (38.9%), 16-38 from three-point range (42.1%) and 24-32 from the free-throw line (75%).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against No.8 Highland Community College at 5:30 p.m. Mar.3 at Highland Community College for the first round of the Region VI DII Women's Basketball Championship.
