Johnson County Heads Back To Grand Junction

(JCCC Sports Information) WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team is headed back to Grand Junction, Colorado. 

The Cavaliers defeated Hutchinson Community College 14-6 Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University to win the Region 6/Plains District Championship and earn a spot in the NJCAA World Series May 25 -June 1. 

This is the second straight trip to the World Series, and fourth overall for Johnson County. 

After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, Johnson County scored the next 11 runs over five innings, highlighted by three straight three-run innings to start the game. 

Leadoff hitter Jake McClure went 3-for-4 with a triple. Two runs scored and three driven in.

Right fielder Ryker Edwards also had three hits with two triples and a double. He scored twice and drove in two runs.

The top RBI producer in the conference, sophomore first baseman Dagen Brewer, hit a solo home run to up his season total to 86.  It was his 18th homer on the season He also ripped his 21st double.

Designated hitter Miken Miller and center fielder Jesse Tisdell each drove in two runs, shortstop Maddux Fleck, second baseman Jack Mosh and catcher Cal Kilgore drove in single runs.

Overall, the Cavaliers collected 14 hits, six that went for extra bases, and drew eight walks. 

On the bump, Brandon Stone improved to 13-1 on the year. The right-hander allowed three runs off six hits, walked four and struck out four over five and one-third innings.  His four strikeouts upped his season total to a new program record of 110. That total also leads the conference and ranks tied for fifth in the NJCAA. 

Right-hander John Chambers pitched the final three and two-third innings, allowing three runs off five hits with five strikeouts.
