Conference announces 2024 East All-KJCCC Baseball Performers
May 22, 2024 COLBY, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced its annual baseball awards for the East and West Divisions today. The East Division consists of 55 student-athletes, and the West Division 51 student-athletes earning honors. Both divisions have a first-team, second-team and honorable mention team.
All-KJCCC Baseball East Division Selections
In the East Division, Johnson County sophomore first baseman Dagen Brewer was the Most Valuable Player. Johnson County freshman right-hand pitcher Brandon Stone was selected Pitcher of the Year. Freshman of the Year went to Kansas City Kansas designated hitter Frankie Santiago and for the second consecutive season Eric Horner of Johnson County was chosen Coach of the Year.
Dagen Brewer, Johnson County – KJCCC East Division MVP
Dagen Brewer is having a tremendous campaign for Johnson County, batting a team-best .424 (75-for-177) with 21 doubles, a triple, 18 home runs, 40 extra base hits, 64 runs scored and 86 runs driven in while leading the Cavaliers to KJCCC East Division and Region 6/Plains District titles, a No. 1 final NJCAA ranking and a spot in the NJCAA World Series. He led the conference in both extra base hits and RBI, ranked second in doubles, fourth in home and fifth in batting average. Brewer produced 22 multiple-hit games highlighted by a five-hit, four-home run, 9-RBI performance in a win at Fort Scott. He was honored as the East Player of the Week three times. Last season Brewer was selected as co-Freshman of the Year.
Brandon Stone, Johnson County – KJCCC East Division Pitcher of the Year
Brandon Stone is not only is having one of the best pitching seasons by a freshman in Johnson County history, but his numbers also rank among the best in team history. The conference leader in strikeouts this season, Stone has mowed down a new program record 110 batters in 99.1 innings pitched. He stands 13-1 with an ERA of 3.17. He also leads the conference in victories and innings pitched and ranks fourth in ERA. Nationally, he ranks tied for first in wins and tied for sixth in strikeouts. Stone was honored as the East Pitcher of the Week in week 11.
Frankie Santiago, Kansas City Kansas – KJCCC East Division Freshman of the Year
Frankie Santiago finished his freshman campaign batting .343 (49-for-143) with 10 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, 26 extra base hits, 47 runs and 46 driven in. He led the team in homers and extra base hits and was fourth in RBI. He produced 13 multiple-hit games, highlighted by a five-hit, two-home run, eight-RBI performance in a win against State Fair.
Eric Horner, Johnson County – KJCCC East Division Coach of the Year
Johnson County skipper Eric Horner has been selected as the KJCCC East Coach of the Year for a second straight year. This season he is leading his program to one of the best in team history. Horner has guided the Cavaliers to back-to-back East Division and Region 6/Plains District championships and a second consecutive berth to the NJCAA World Series. The No. 1 ranked team in the final NJCAA Poll, a first in program history, the Cavaliers stand 52-11 entering World Series. Through four seasons as JCCC's head coach, Horner has tallied 197 wins, the most of any previous KJCCC coach over that span.
