KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week - Week 6
COLBY, Kan. – Series wins for Butler Community College and Barton Community College to open Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division play was fueled by the Week 6 KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week Jackson Ellison and Antonio Mendez.
Jackson Ellison – Butler (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Freshman infielder Jackson Ellison helped the Grizzlies to a 3-1 series win over Garden City in the first conference series of the season. Ellison finished 8-12 (.667) at the plate, driving in a team-high seven runs across the four-game set. In game one at Garden City, Ellison finished 3-3 with three RBI. The freshman also added multi-hit games in games two and four of the series and is now hitting .356 this season with 16 runs driven in and nine runs scored.
Antonio Mendez – Barton (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Making just his second career start, Antonio Mendez tossed his way to his third victory of the season in Barton's 11-1 game two win over Seward County. The freshman worked seven innings, permitting just one run on four hits, and struck out a career high eight. Through four appearances this season, Mendez holds a 3-0 record, sporting a 1.29 ERA over 14 innings of work while giving up just two runs to go along with 16 strikeouts.
