Two KJCCC Baseball Teams Vault Into Top 10 Of Latest NJCAA Division 1 Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Week 3 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – As Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference baseball teams have reached the conference portion of their schedule, the latest NJCAA Division Baseball poll proved kind to the league with all three ranked teams making moves up the rankings to put two teams in the top 10 of the latest rankings released on Monday, March 10th.
The two teams inside the top 10 is the first time this season that the conference has had multiple teams in the top 10 in the same week and the first time since the preseason poll that a KJCCC was ranked inside the top 10. As part of the moves up the rankings, Johnson County Community College was responsible for the biggest move of any team this week by soaring nine spots up the rankings to number eight this week following a four-game sweep of Allen Community College that saw the Cavaliers outscore the Red Devils 36-4 with two shutout wins. Also making a multi-spot jump to get into the top 10 is Cowley College as the Tigers went 3-1 on the opening weekend of conference play to improve to 12-3 overall and move up three spots to ninth after starting the season ranked number 20 in the preseason poll. Joining by JCCC and CCC is Hutchinson as the Blue Dragons are up one spot from last week to 20th after taking three of four games from Dodge City Community College to open their conference slate. HCC is 16-3 overall this season and is one of only two KJCCC West Division schools with three or fewer losses to this point.
Now that conference play has begun, non-conference play shifts to most teams limiting their out of conference games to Tuesday’s in the week as teams shift their focus towards the 32-game conference schedule that all 18 teams conference teams take part in. Tuesday will feature 17 non-conference games across the league followed by a single non-conference game between Fort Scott and Crowder on Wednesday with eight doubleheaders on the schedule for Thursday afternoon. Even more action is scheduled across the weekend, with four games taking place Friday followed by 22 games on Saturday and two games on Sunday to close out the week’s action.
