Recent Results From KJCCC Baseball Teams Lead To Big Moves Up Rankings For Two Of Three Ranked Teams
NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Week 2 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Strong showings from Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools last week were rewarded in the latest NJCAA Division 1 baseball poll with three teams either maintaining their ranking from the week prior or moving up in the latest rankings released on Monday, March 3rd.
All three teams that were ranked in the previous poll remain ranked, with two teams making moves up the rankings which included the largest move of any team ranked this week with Cowley College moving up six spots to number 12 this week after going 5-0 last week with a win over Southeast Community College followed by a four-game sweep of Indian Hills Community College. The Tigers are 9-2 this season, with their only losses coming to now number five-ranked McClennan Community College as CCC will open KJCCC East play this week against Labette. Making a five-spot leap up the rankings was Johnson County Community College as the Cavaliers have won seven of their past eight games, which included a 3-1 series win over previously number 14 ranked Iowa Western with JCCC now sitting at 13-5 overall heading into their conference schedule. In the rankings from the KJCCC West Division and holding their same ranking as last week is Hutchinson, as the Blue Dragons are 11-2 overall following a four-game series split with Coffeyville after starting the year 9-0.
Action around the league is lighter to start the week, with just Dodge City in action on Monday and a total of eight games taking place Tuesday in anticipation of conference play starting up in both the KJCCC East and West Divisions on Thursday afternoon. A cross-divisional doubleheader will take place on Friday for the two teams to draw the opening conference bye (Kansas City Kansas, and Colby) before seeing conference action resume among the other 16 baseball-playing teams in D1 on Saturday afternoon. The weekend will conclude with four games on Sunday, including a doubleheader between Kansas City Kansas and Indian Hills Community College, along with Heston College playing a road doubleheader at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.
