CHARLOTTE, NC – As Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s soccer races heat up, the conference has seen Neosho County Community College break into the top five of the latest NJCAA Division 2 men’s soccer poll as the KJCCC sees three teams ranked in the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 men’s soccer rankings.
Finishing off a season sweep of nationally ranked Johnson County with a 3-1 road win this past Saturday, the Panthers move up one spot to claim their best ranking of the season by holding down the number five ranking with an 8-1-2 overall record. The lone loss for NCCC came at the hands of top-ranked and defending National Champion Iowa Lakes who tops the poll for a sixth-straight week in 2024 as one of five teams in this week’s rankings that have yet to suffer defeat this year. Following their defeat to Neosho, Johnson County falls one spot from seventh down to eighth as the Cavaliers are now 9-3-0 overall and have four matches remaining in the regular season.
The other ranked team from the KJCCC this week comes in the NJCAA Division 1 men’s soccer poll as Cowley falls four spots down to eighth after earning a 3-2 win over Garden City followed by a 2-2 road tie at Seward County last week. Within the KJCCC Division 1 men’s soccer standings, Cowley is 6-0-2 and five points clear of second-place Barton as every other conference school in NJCAA Division 1 has at least two conference losses.
Looking at this week’s schedule, Barton is scheduled to take on number six ranked Iowa Western to begin the week on Monday evening before having four days to prepare for a home match with Kansas City Kansas. Other key games in Division 1 games this week include Cowley hosting Dodge City on Wednesday while Division 2 action is highlighted by Neosho County hosting Central Community College as the Panthers look to earn the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Raiders in the NJCAA Region 6/9 standings after playing to a 1-1 draw in Columbus, Nebraska on September 18th.
