CHARLOTTE, NC – Big jumps by three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools highlight a total of five conference teams ranked or receiving votes with three in the top 10 in the latest edition of the NJCAA Men’s Soccer Rankings released on Tuesday, September 3rd.
Three teams in the conference make moves up the poll of at least three spots including the highest-ranked team in the conference in third-ranked Cowley after moving up three spots from their preseason ranking of sixth as the Tigers are off to a 2-0-0 start with wins over Eastern Oklahoma State and Garden City. Maintaining a spot in the top-10 is Barton by sitting in sixth despite dropping their KJCCC opener to Dodge City last week by a score of 3-2 as the Cougars bounced back with a 3-0 win over Jefferson College followed by a 5-1 win over Trinidad State as BCC will host Coffeyville on Wednesday in their lone action of the week.
The NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Soccer Poll saw the biggest leaps from KJCCC schools with previously number-13 ranked Johnson County ascending six spots up to seventh after winning their first two games of the year before being dealt a 4-2 defeat to defending National Champion Iowa Lakes as the Cavaliers responded by defeating State Fair on Monday afternoon by a score of 10-1. Joining JCCC in the poll is Neosho County which made a five-spot leap from 19th to 14th with a 5-2 win over Dodge City on August 24th followed by a 3-1 defeat to top-ranked Iowa Lakes as the Panthers will head to Pratt for their KJCCC opener on Saturday afternoon. Also appearing in the rankings and receiving votes this week is Allen Community College as the Red Devils are 2-1-1 on the year with wins over Southwestern Illinois (3-2) and State Fair (6-0) along with a 3-2 loss to number 16-ranked St. Louis Community College and a 1-1 tie with Crowder.
Both Barton and Cowley will be in action on Wednesday with home games while the D2 teams will not see any matches until Friday when Allen heads to Hesston for the KJCCC D2 Conference opener followed by Johnson County and Neohso both having KJCCC/District games on Saturday with the Cavaliers heading to Central Nebraska CC and Neosho taking on Pratt in Pratt. Cowley will end the week of action for ranked teams on Sunday when the Tigers head to Dodge City for a 6 PM kickoff.
