CHARLOTTE, NC – After earning his fifth Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week award on Tuesday, Seward County Community College sophomore has been named the NJCAA Division 1 Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season in five weeks of play.
Earning a second-straight NJCAA D1 Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Award from the NJCAA national office, Mestres helped protect the goal and lead the Saints to two wins on the week with a total of eight saves. In the first match of the week with non-conference play against Tabor JV, Mestres recorded four saves with only an own goal allowed from his defender as part of an 11-1 Saint win. A few days later recording the same stat line in KJCCC action against Coffeyville, Mestres made four saves and allowed one goal given up off a penalty kick attempt to earn his fourth win of the year in net while helping SCCC earn their first conference win of the year. Mestres now ranks fifth in the NJCAA in saves (55), save percentage (.917), and 13th in wins.
