CHARLOTTE, NC – Week Four of the 2024 NJCAA Soccer season came with big performances from Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference athletes as three players from the conference have collected NJCAA Soccer National Player of the Week honors with Seward County’s Bruno Mestres, Butler’s London Ingram, and Pratt’s Andres Ballaster Martinez all earning national honors.
Bruno Mestres (Seward County – NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week)
For the second time this season, Mestres has earned NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week honors as the sophomore continued his dominance in front of the goal with another week of double figures saves over two matches last week. After suiting up in non-conference action against Kansas Wesleyan JV where he recorded two saves to keep the Coyotes scoreless in the first 55 minutes of the game, he was on the field for all 90 minutes against Dodge City where he turned away 10 shots on goal after allowing just one goal in the first four minutes. This season, Mestres ranks fifth in NJCAA Division 1 men’s soccer this season in save percentage (.940), 10th in goals against average (0.49), and has played the eighth-most minutes of any NJCAA Division 1 men’s soccer goalie (550 minutes).
London Ingram (Butler – NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Soccer Player of the Week)
Having already made an appearance on SportsCenter Top 10 plays with a game-tying goal in a nationally-ranked contest to start the season against Seminole State, Ingram continues to lead the goal-scoring charge for the Grizzlies as the freshman scored a pair of goals in each of the two Butler wins last week. Butler started their week with a 4-3 road win over number 14 Cowley before earning a 6-0 win home score vs Garden City with Ingram helping bring the Grizzlies back from an early 2-0 deficit at Cowley. Following up the win in the ranked matchup with the Tigers, Ingram scored the game-winner vs Garden City as she scored her team's first and last goal of the match. Ingram now has seven goals and two assists, scoring a goal in five of Butler's seven matches. Among the NJCAA Division 1 women’s soccer national leaders this season, Ingram ranks 22nd in goals scored (seven) and 29th in total points (16) with both marks ranking in the top three of the KJCCC Division 1 women’s soccer leaders.
Andres Ballaster Martinez (Pratt – NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week)
Ballaster Martinez posted two shutouts for the Beavers this past week in net, stopping all 14 shots he faced as Pratt earned a 3-0 road win at Allen and a 4-0 home win over Hesston. The wins were the first two of the season for PCC, who is now 2-1-0 in the KJCCC and in second place in the KJCCC standings. Martinez currently leads KJCCC Division 2 men’s soccer in saves (28), save percentage (.848), and goals against average (1.43) while ranking 11th in NJCAA Division 2 men’s soccer in save percentage.
