CHARLOTTE, NC – Another strong week of performances from Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s soccer teams has been rewarded with the addition of two new teams to the latest NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 top 20 polls.
The two additions give the KJCCC six total teams in the latest rankings that are either ranked or receiving votes, with four of the six teams seeing their rankings improve from the prior week. Among the six teams ranked or receiving votes, three are ranked in the top 10 of their respective polls.
An idle week for Cowley College last week after having a non-conference matchup with Allen postponed due to weather leaves the Tigers the highest-ranked team from the conference in either poll by holding the number four ranking. Joining Cowley in the top 10 of the Division 1 men’s soccer poll is number seven ranked Barton Community College after the Cougars made a two-spot improvement following a home win over number 17 ranked Lewis & Clark Community College. The third team from the KJCCC in the Division 1 men’s soccer rankings this week is Dodge City Community College, with the Conquistadors receiving votes following their 3-0-1 start to the season that included a 2-1 home win over Western Texas College on Saturday afternoon.
Within the NJCAA Division 2 men’s soccer rankings, Neosho County drops three spots but holds onto a top-five ranking by being ranked number five this week following their 2-2 home tie to Allen Community College in their KJCCC opener this past Saturday. The Red Devils go from unranked to number 19 this week after remaining unbeaten with their draw at Neosho County and are 3-0-2 under first-year head coach Gefte Blanc. One of the biggest movers in the poll of any team ranked this week, Johnson County Community College leaps five spots back up into the top 10 with the number nine ranking this week after going 2-0 last week with wins over North Iowa Area Community College and a 1-0 upset of number four-ranked Iowa Lakes Community College.
Taking a look at this week’s schedule, 13 matches await KJCCC schools, with two of the matches featuring a battle of ranked teams. Both matches will come at the Division 2 level, with number nine Johnson County hosting number 19 Allen on Wednesday afternoon in conference play, while number five Neosho County will host number 15-ranked Central Community College in non-conference action.
