KJCCC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week - Week 5
COLBY, Kan. – A top 10 all-time NJCAA time in the 1,000 meters and a Fiji national record in the high jump has led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for Cloud County freshman Abdelaziz Benbrahim and Neosho County freshman Rusiate Matai.
Abdelaziz Benbrahim (Cloud County) – KJCCC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Abdelaziz set a new Cloud County record in the 1,000 meters (2:25.40) to win the event at the Kansas State Steve Miller Invitational while recording the number six time in the NJCAA this season (number 10 time on the NJCAA All-Time Charts). The freshman turned around the following day on Saturday and set a personal record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:19.02 to move to number three in the NJCAA this season.
Rusiate Matai (Neosho County) – KJCCC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Rusiate Matai set a new overall Fiji National Record by besting both the previous indoor and outdoor high jump records for the country. His mark of 2.10 meters (6 ft. - 10.75 in.) is the number two mark in the NJCAA this year while winning the meet that consisted mostly of NCAA Division 2 and highly ranked NJCAA programs.
