KJCCC Cross Country Athletes of the Week - Week 7
Cross country runners Andrew Leck (Neosho County) and Delsinay Pena (Neosho County) were named Jayhawk Conference men's and women's Runners of the Week.
Delsinay Pena - She finished 4th overall in our inaugural cross country meet and was the top Junior college finisher. She has led our team the entire season and has done it with class. She wasn't fully a cross country and Track runner until her senior year of high school and has come a long way even though her time does not reflect it. The same as the men's, the course was extremely muddy and wet. Across the board during the high school races after our races times were over one minute slower comparatively for each individual who ran.
Andrew Leck - Won our inaugural Home cross country meet, therefore a Meet Record and 1st place finish. It was a small meet with five total teams and only four full teams started the race only three ended up scoring. The course was saturated everywhere from lots of rain leading up to race day. A good portion of the course had standing water and mud 3-6 inches deep. Corners were really slick and multiple people went down. I believe he deserves the award despite not having an impressive time because of his efforts leading the team this season and doing it all with great character and sportsmanship. Winning a collegiate meet is also something that he can be proud of and because I do not believe many others ran this week to oppose his performance.
